Retreating without the retreat!

Written and published during covid, the author doesn’t assume that lengthy times away from it all are possible for everyone. Instead, the ‘retreat mindset’ is helped to find an everyday home in life. Each of the seven short chapters has a few pages at the end of ‘suggestions’ of practical ways in which the reader can take the ideas of the chapter further in their own spiritual practice. There may be nothing new under the sun, but it is good to be reminded of spiritual tools that maybe we have mislaid in the busyness of life, or abandoned along the way. It’s also a real help to be pointed to useful webpages and other less traditional resources.
This is a short, very accessible book, which I will recommend to directees as well as using myself. It will join Sleeping with Bread, God of Surprises, and Landmarks as go-to books that offer a life-enhancing way in to Ignation spirituality.
